I don’t know at home if I’ve awaken to an alarm lately, certainly not with three dogs. But thank goodness for them here, I guess that long days of walking and late nights make for very deep sleeps.

This morning’s plan was to depart the Airbnb, grab pastries at the bakery around the corner and make our way to Gard de Nord to catch the train to Brussels. Our plans were diverted when we found the bakery and coffee shop near our place closed, on a Saturday morning? Must be why the line was so long yesterday.

We walked towards the train station and found a bakery open, grabbed pastries and the obligatory French baguette and made our way to the station. While we waited for our train, we grabbed coffee, I blogged and Nick practiced his Italian.

Our train ride to Brusssls was little less than two hours but went by quickly, before we knew it we had arrived to rainy Brussels. With three hours before we could check into our Airbnb we found a bar that we visited last time we were here in 2014 and it was just as we remembered. We shared a cheese tray, the largest, cheapest one I’ve ever seen and some of the best beers Belgium offers.

After three hours of watching people around us come and go, we finally made our way to to check into our Airbnb, but not before grabbing a waffle on the way. After checking in and a quick nap we set out on our self guided chocolate tour, but only made it to one place because I quickly realized while I like chocolate, a little goes a long way here.

After walking around a bit we decided to do an early dinner at a place Nick read about online. I enjoyed the sausage (or as the waitress told the table next to us the meal for children) and Nick had the rabbit, we both enjoyed our selections.

Afterwards we made our way to Delirium for one more drink before turning in for an early night. To our surprise we stumbled upon Mannekin Pis’ sister outside of Delirium. Tomorrow we head to Brugge!
