I am not sure how much I have talked about this on my blog posts, but I really miss Mexican food! I have attempted to make myself tacos at the villa, but without taco seasoning, it is just not the same. I should have listened to my dear friend Kelly and packed some, but in the whirlwind of moving over here didn’t.
Luckily, Genova has a Mexican restaurant! We had planned to go last weekend for dinner, but unfortunately Nick had a stomach bug and spent several days in bed. Thank goodness he was feeling better, because I was going with or without him this weekend 🙂 This weekend was a recommended travel weekend for the students and most of them took advantage of it. All but two students took off Friday after class, so therefore Nick, the remaining two students and myself caught the bus down to Piazza di Ferrari and made our way to Mamacita’s. There might be other Mexican restaurants in town, but this is the one that Lucia suggested to me more than a month ago, and I have been begging Nick to go ever since.

I had read on Tripadvisor that there were some stairs, but did not realize exactly how many stairs there were to gain access, poor Nick – but he was a champ. We entered the restaurant, where the hostess spoke perfectly good English, with an American accent 🙂 She was super sweet, and even though we arrived at 7:45 pm to an empty restaurant informed us that they were booked. Looking at each other perplexed, we gather what she meant was that they were booked with reservations. She then proceeded to ask us if we thought that we could be out by 9:30 pm – are you kidding me?!?!? We advised YES and were seated right after that.

We had the place to ourselves for awhile |
While the food wasn’t quite like home, it was great to at least get a fix! And it was better then the homemade tacos that I was coming up with back at the villa. I do think that we will return, however I will probably order something different. I will have to say though it was nice to have a Mexican beer. Nick’s drink was a mix of beer and tequila, it was quite tasty.

I think that we all enjoyed our evening, I hate to say that it was Nick and I’s first evening out in Genova. While the Piazza was quieter then I though that it would be, it was really neat seeing the building lit up at night in Piazza di Ferrari. I usually only get to see it as we are zipping by in a taxi 🙂 We took the bus back to the villa only to realize that the bus we needed to catch which would drop us off at the door of the villa stopped shortly after 8:30 pm, so therefore Nick had to hop up over 100 stairs! I kept reminding him that he was working off his dinner and drinks – lol! We had a nice evening out.

Tomorrow we are off to Torino, and I am really excited. Then Saturday early we leave for our 10 day trip to Rome, Sienna and Florence. While anxious about the trip and my limited mobile husband, I am so excited to visit these cities!
