As we flew out of CLT to Minneapolis, everything was going as scheduled. We found an awesome wine bar, recommended by our friend Kelly Moore, each had a flight of wines and “snacked” on a charcuterie plate and Italian sandwich. Everything was delicious.
Here’s where it all started to fall apart (but really not that bad, just annoying) we received ultimately two text messages to find out our plane was delayed over two hours. Quickly calculating in my head, I realized we are going to miss our scheduled whale watching tour.
Well I know suspense is killing you, so I’ll cut to the chase… we finally boarded, we had to wait for a plane to be flown in from MI since our original one has mechanical issues, and arrived in Rekjavick 2.5 hours late and were dropped at our stop at exactly 2:00 pm, whale watching tour time. With bags in hand we ran down to the marina and met some lovely ladies who told us either they would hold the boat or we could reschedule to 5:00 pm tour. We graciously accepted the rescheduling and hiked a short distance to our AirBnB, which was right near the marina. We got all settled, showered and walked back down to the marina to grab a bite to eat, Iceland best fish n chips (or so we read). I’ll have to admit they were pretty tasty, but also pretty expensive! I now know why they tell you to stock up at the grocery store.
With fully bellies, we made our way over for a quick stop at the Harpa Concert Hall and then to board our vessel. We were onboard for about 3 hours round trip and go figure the one time I use the bathroom a humpback whale was spotted! Nick had a good view of him, but by the time I got back up to the top deck I just saw his water spout – boo! Good news is we saw some puffins fly by and all around us was beautiful! In just glad one of us saw something 😉 After we disembarked we made our way to the smallest Raman noodle place, grabbed some warm noodle bowls to warm back up took a quick stroll through town and then back to the Airbnb for a good nights rest before setting out for the Ring Road in the morning!
