On Sunday night Barbara had her next to last Italian class with the students and then offered to take us all to a restaurant near Porto Antico, I Tre Merli, where we could experience a true Italian meal, as I mentioned in my last post, complete with all the courses. The menu was fixed, except for our secondi, which was nice as we never waited on our food. When we arrived there was all the vino and aqua (water) at our table that we could want.  A four course meal and all the vino that you could ask for, all for thirty euro, not a bad deal if you ask me!  The wine was produced in house and we were able to enjoy both their red and white wine.
We started dinner with an antipasti of farinata (a chickpea cake) and foccaca allo straccino (cheese bread).
So excited for our dinner!
Our secondi was tortellini with a walnut sauce and trofie a pesto (a dish only known here in Genova).

I disliked my primi – lol
Then for our secondi we could choose between a local, fresh fish, veal with cheese inside or roast beef.  Since I am not a huge fish fan, and we have roast beef at the villa often, I decided I would try the veal.  Like previously mentioned I have not been a huge veal fan in the past, but this was so different and delicious.  It was served with a side of potatoes as well.  Nick enjoyed the fish dish that was offered, we decided that we would each get one of them and share, but somehow there was never any sharing involved!

Our dolci was a delicious chocolate brownie with gelato.  By the end of the meal, again I was stuffed and so excited to get home to jump into my pajama pants, as I much needed the extra room. We had a wonderful time and I was so glad that we were able to have this experience!

On Monday evening Silvia invited me along with Barbara, Giuditta, and some of Silvia’s friends to a restaurant near centro (downtown) for apertivo.  Even though I was the only non Italian speaking lady there I had a wonderful time.  I had a very good drink called a raspberry mule, which included vodka and some fruit liquor, and was garnished with raspberry and limes.  Included with the price of your drink was a buffet, which had everything from pasta, foccacia, salami, cous cous, to smoked salmon on it, and much more. Unfortunately, my phone died and I wasn’t able to get any pictures, but I had a wonderful time out with the girls and really enjoyed their company.
