CLT—>ATL—>FCO

We arrived to the Charlotte airport to a super long line at the Delta counter, finally as we approached the counter we were told that there was an issue with my reservation,  later to be told that I had not paid for the ticket, excuse me?
Finally after a call to Delta they had two reservations for me 🤷🏼‍♀️ And everything was paid for under Nick’s name so we were good to go.
We made it to our gate with about 30 mins to spare. Our flight to ATL was uneventful, we arrived at the lounge to find it packed and a 20 minute wait, we’ve never experienced that before.
We boarded our flight to FCO surprised to see that we had a bulk head seat, thank goodness. I was very concerned about having an aisle seat so that I could get up and move, no more blood clots needed for this lady.
Once in Roma, we quickly made our way through immigration, with the exception of Nick who’s passport wouldn’t scan, so he got the “special” treatment – he had to walk around the kiosks. We quickly grabbed our bags that they made us check, only to find out there was plenty of room on the CLT to ATL flight. I don’t mind checking, but honestly wasn’t prepared to.
We located our AirBnB ever we were o strayed to gather the key from the grit stand down below. The room wasn’t ready yet, so we dropped our bags and made our way to a local meat shop to grab a sandwich.
We allowed the butcher to create the sandwiches for us and his assistant (who appeared to have never made a sandwich before in her life) slowly made our sandwiches, to our surprise they weighed every single ingredient that went on the same sandwich so it took quite some time.

With then made our way to the park nearby which overlooks the Colosseum to enjoy our lunches. Afterwords we walked around the Colosseum moving through the ridiculous amount of people and the people trying to sell you everything and anything. I really thought coming in January that there would be hardly anyone around but boy was I completely wrong. The line for tickets to the Colosseum was nothing like I’ve ever seen before.
We then made our way back to the Airbnb hoping that we would arrive to find it clean and to take a short nap and freshen up. We entered scared by the man still I shed cleaning, but thankfully he was on his way out. After a short nap and quick showers we ventured back out to make a way to next favorite church, San Carlo a la Quattro Fontana, only to find it closed. He had looked it up online and it said that it did not close till six but unfortunately it was not open!
Bummed with two hours until our dinner reservations (which were right around the corner) we walked over to The Spanish Steps and then last Trevi Fountain. The sun was setting as we arrived at the top of The Spanish Steps, the view with St Peters in the background did not disappoint!

After navigating the crowds around Trevi we made our way to our dinner destination. Our first dinner in Italy was good, but I’m hoping that there are better ones to come. We enjoyed a meat and cheese app with pizza bread, I had lasagne and Nick, Amatriciana, and we shared a bottle of Montepulciano.

Exhausted from the flight and the days events we slowly made the long walk back up the apt to crash. Thank goodness for the lift!
