Bummed that we missed out on the opportunity to see the Pantheon we decided to get up early and make it there by the time it opened. I had also read that visiting Trevi Fountain early in the morning was ideal as all the tourist were still sleeping. So we decided to turn in early the night before and set our alarms for a 7 am wake up. This didn’t work out for Nick as he was back awake at 10:30 pm and didn’t fall back asleep until around 3 am.
However, knowing it was our last day in Roma we pushed through, got up, took luke warm showers (I DO NOT miss the showers of Italy) and off we went, trekking 1.5 miles to the Trevi Fountain. And boy am I glad we did, seeing it without all the crowds was pretty cool!

We then made our way over to the Pantheon to already find a line waiting to get in, we arrived about 10 minutes until 8:30 am. At exactly 8:30 am they opened the ropes and in we went, we were both very impressed how on time it was!

The Pantheon is somewhere I could visit a thousand times and never get tired of it – it is absolutely amazing! Since Nick’s camera battery died while we were there we didn’t spend too much time in there, it was also quite chilly. I guess since there is a giant hole in the roof, heating it would be silly.
With about an hour and half until our train to Firenze left, we headed back to the apt to collect our bags and head to the train station. We took a different route this time, which in my opinion proved to be the most interesting (burnt cars and all) and shortest.

I enjoyed my first successful cafe e latte (still not convinced coffee is good), and the best long john donut with creme at the train station.
We arrived in Firenze and made our way to check into our AirBnB, we were greeted by the owners sister who was wonderful and the apt was wonderful compared to the one we had just left. After settling in and freshen up we made our way out to try to get a sandwich at one our favorite places Al’Antino Vinio only to find a line WAY too long for our liking. I like a good sandwich  but I’m not about to stand in a line for hours to get it. So we walked around done more before stumbling into Piazza Santo Spirito, we had already made reservation at Tamero, a place Luca took us to when we lived here so we stopped into a restaurant around the corner and grabbed a window seat with a view of the chiesa. I had a wild boar tagliatelle and Nick has Osso Bucco, bitch were delicious. We then wandered into Santo Spirito where were were able to see a crucifix by Michelangelo.

We wandered the streets, in and out of shops – looking for the perfect purse to take back – found three 😬 We even made our way over to the Farmacia in hopes of finding a new perfume, no such luck, but we enjoyed a tea in their back room before heading back to Piazza Santo Spirito for dinner at Tameró, it was as wonderful as I remember. I had the sage butter ravioli and we shared contucci vin santo for dessert. Exhausted from another full day we retreated back to the apt for an early morning wake up.
